Genesis 1: 14-19
Each week we have been learning about each step of creation and how God neatly and beautifully made each thing in nature. Each we are trying to find ways to look at our surroundings and notice the wonderful ways God created each thing.
Were you able to look at all the things growing outside? What did you see? What did you like about what you observed? When I look outside at my house Im able to see fruit trees and vegetables growing and changing the way my yard looks. It’s pretty cool.
Today we are going to focus on the next moments of creation, lights in the sky. This lesson fits really well with something that happened yesterday. Do you know what important thing happened yesterday? Yesterday was the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. Did you know the Bible tells us that the sun, stars, and moon help us to know the seasons and days?
In Genesis, the Bible says the sun will shine during the day and to help us know the days, years, and seasons. Yesterday the sun showed us that summer had begun. Our days are long and warm now, some days really hot! Genesis, also says that God created the moon to light the night. The Bible tells us that God gave of the stars and their movement to help us too!
The 4th step of creation finished when God set the stars and moon to the darkness and placed the sun to shine during the day. God knew it was good.
Fun with star: Many people throughout history have used the stars to guide them or to tell stories. Sailors used the stars to guide their way during the night. They knew the stars could lead the way. Can you find the north star? Try finding it tonight. Can you find any other constellations? Let me know what you find!
