Good afternoon, Friends!
In, as they’re saying, an abundance of caution, Pam Chambers (as clerk of Ministry and Counsel) and I have decided on the following course of action:
- Cancel all activities at University Friends Church for Sunday, March 15 – no early worship gathering at 8/8:30; no choir rehearsal; no meeting for worship at 10:00; no children’s activities; no coffee fellowship; no adult Sunday School classes at 11:20.
- Note that chancel and bell choir rehearsals, as well as the Bible quiz team practices, had already been cancelled this coming week because of spring break.
- Close the church office this week and ask Jennifer Exline, church secretary, to work from home (and work out some arrangement for handling incoming phone calls).
- Make a decision about the office for the week of March 22 later.
- Ask Doug Chambers, as Facilities Manager (and because our janitor is on vacation this coming week), to sanitize public spaces before Sunday, March 22.
- Plan to gather for unprogrammed worship at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, and possibly also Sunday, March 29.
- Ask folks who are at greater risk due to age, underlying conditions, and/or anxiety to follow wise guidelines about avoiding public gatherings.
- Make decisions about up-coming Sundays as things become clearer.
We encourage you all to participate in a time of prayer and meditation tomorrow morning (during the 10:00 a.m. hour if that works, at home or in small groups, as desired or possible).
Let us join together in prayer for healing for those who have been affected by this virus, as well as for the well-being of our Meeting, our community, our nation, and our world.
