Heaven gained a feisty firecracker April 27, 2022, when Jacque Bowles, 92, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother of Wichita, Kansas, died.

Born April 10, 1930, in Wellington, Kansas, Jacque moved to Wichita in 1944, graduated from North High in 1948, then married the love of her life, Bill Bowles, July 31 of the following year. Together they had five children—twin daughters Sharol and Carol, and sons, Bill, Michael and Douglas.

Jacque had many loves in her life, but her greatest was family. Married to Bill for 67 years, Jacque took the roles of wife and mother seriously, and wholeheartedly believed the mother is what held the father and children together. There are so many shared fond memories because Jacque made it a priority to be together as a family whenever possible. An infectious giggle and her quick wit made Jacque the feisty firecracker we all dearly miss.

Dancing was another one of Jacque’s passions. Not one to brag (who are we kidding, she loved being the center of attention!), but she was crowned the jitterbug champ of North High while attending school there. A social butterfly and always the life of the party, Jacque enjoyed celebrations of any kind, and was a fashion queen who loved clothes, earrings, and especially the colors purple and yellow.

The travel bug bit Jacque early on. She and Bill went on numerous vacations together and took to RVing post-retirement, visiting places all over the United States (we have the VHS tapes and photo albums to prove it).

Jacque was preceded in death by her true love Bill, daughters Sharol and Carol, and her oldest son, Bill. She is survived by sons Michael (Gaye), Douglas (Yvette), daughter-in-law Diana, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and Bogey, her granddog.

Jacque’s requested family-only graveside service was held May 1. She is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery, next to her husband and girls.

In lieu of flowers, please remember Jacque—a kind, yet sassy soul—with donations in her honor to the Midwest Transplant Network and Traditions Health Home Health & Hospice Care of Wichita.

Services in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
