SAFETY GUIDELINES

Update:  As you know, the Center for Disease Control said recently that vaccinated people may gather indoors without masks.  To protect the unvaccinated among us, particularly those under 12, we will continue to require masks during worship.

cid:image004.png@01D72097.B200B3E0

In order even to worship in person safely, we will follow these guidelines:

·         Masks that cover the nose and mouth will be required of everyone except small children.  (Masks and hand sanitizer will be available for your use.)

·         Worship will be limited to between thirty and forty minutes long.

·         Offering plates will be near the front and the back of the meeting room.

·         Please sit in designated pews only to allow for distancing.  In addition, talking with folks beyond one’s family group will be discouraged indoors, and the foyer will not include a coffee station or tempting readings. Smiling and waving are welcome, as are gestures of “namaste” and “live long and prosper.”

·         Instead of having bulletins, the order of worship, announcements, and prayer requests will be included in The Light This Week.  If you would like to have any of that information handy on Sunday morning, you might want to print it out and bring it with you.

Please stay home if

·         you are unable or unwilling to comply with these guidelines,

·         you are uncomfortable about or have health reasons to avoid attending worship even with the guidelines,

·         you are sick,

·         you or anyone in your household has been diagnosed with COVID-19, or

·         you have been in contact with someone over the past two weeks who has been diagnosed with or is showing symptoms of COVID-19.

Also, be assured that we will continue live streaming worship for the foreseeable future, and we will continue to monitor the pandemic situation, especially emerging virus variants.

Questions and suggestions are welcome.  Prayers too!

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Parents may drop off younger children at the nursery on the 3rd floor (directly above the choir room).  Childcare will be available from 9:45 until about 15 minutes after worship concludes.  Children who can stay with parents during the service are invited to do so through

the children’s message, then exit to the upstairs children’s area where parents may meet them after the worship service.

Nut free & gluten free snacks will be provided.  (Bring diapers if we might need them). We will continue to observe social distancing (as much as reasonable) and masks for adults.  There is not a restroom on the 3rd floor, so we will have hand sanitizer available and/or take the group of children down a level for a handwashing/potty break before their snack.

We plan to have childcare also during the Sunday School/Monthly Meeting time.

For other questions or concerns, feel free to contact someone on the Children’s Ministry Working Group: Gwen McDonald, Greg Newby, Pam Chambers, Sue Wine.

Looking forward to being together! ~ Children’s Ministry Working Group

Volunteers may come up with their own message and lesson or we can provide a lesson for you. If you have any questions please email Gwen McDonald at mcgwenald@gmail.com.

Please communicate this need to me ASAP so arrangements can be made.

The General Board of Friends United Meeting is inviting you to participate in a unique “virtual” Triennial gathering. The theme for this gathering will coincide with FUM’s 2021 theme of Hope and Light as we celebrate the collaborative and transforming work Friends are doing across the globe.

DATES AND TIMES

The virtual session is scheduled for 17-19 June, 2021. Spanning multiple time zones, each session is limited to three hours and will begin at the following times each day:
8:00 AM Pacific Time9:00 AM Belize Time10:00 AM Jamaica and Central Time11:00 AM Cuba and Eastern Time6:00 PM Palestine and East Africa TimeWHAT TO EXPECT

Thursday, 17 June — Travel with Friends

Triennial representatives will be given the opportunity to “travel by Zoom” to visit with Friends in the various places where FUM is committed to serving. Participants will be issued visas to visit two places during this session. Travel to Kaimosi and visit Friends Theological College or to the Friends School in Belize. Visit Friends in Samburu and Turkana. Journey to Ramallah then on to Tanzania. These virtual trips will allow representatives to meet with ministry staff and program leaders. Be inspired by their stories of transformation. Learn about their challenges. Discover new ways to pray and support the amazing work they are doing as they are called to reflect the hope and light of God.

Friday, 18 June — Discover
During this session, representatives will discover FUM’s renewed commitment to energize and equip local meetings and Yearly Meetings, and learn more about FUM’s commitment to work toward the financial sustainability of ministries and project partners.

Saturday, 19 June — Worshipful Work
The Triennial gathering will also be an opportunity for Triennial Representatives and the General Board to do worshipful work together, such as approve board officers, confirm the appointment of the General Secretary, review amendments to the Organization and Procedures, and approve the budgets.

REGISTER

All are welcome! Triennial Representatives, General Board members, Yearly Meeting officers, organization leaders, and interested Friends are invited to participate in these sessions. Register online at
http://bit.ly/registration_triennial2021, gain access to the Zoom gathering, and get your “travel visas.”

FUM is not charging a fee for your registration, but Friends are invited to donate to the General Fund. Your donation will support efforts to purchase data bundles to connect Friends from places where there is limited and expensive internet access. Contribute online at

PRAYER REQUESTS AND CONCERNS

o   Dave and Carol Kingrey

o   Randy Cook has been diagnosed withcancer, but is considered potentially curable.  Please keep his wife Diane Doyle in your prayers as well.

o   Our church at this time of new beginnings, particularly the Pastoral Search Committee as it begins its work and our ongoing negotiations with Friends University

Dear Friends,

       It makes us sad to send the news that Don Mallonee passed away Tuesday morning, June 1, at 11:30 am in St Francis Hospital.  Don has served our Meeting in many roles for many years. We will miss him deeply.  Let us lift up Linda and the family in prayer and as plans develop we will pass that information along.

Sincerely,

Doug Chambers, Clerk

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Visitation services for Don Mallonee will be Saturday, June 5, 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary, 10515 W Maple St, Wichita, KS 67209.
Don’s Memorial Service will be Sunday, June 6, 2:00 pm, at University Friends Church.  Interment plans will be announced at the service.
Negotiations with the University:
Doug Chambers, presiding clerk, and Catherine Griffith, pastor, met with folks from Friends University and the attorneys on Friday, May 21.  We came to clearness on all but one point of the agreement.  That is, the university board has asked to include a provision that the church not host any same-sex weddings in the church facility.  Doug and Catherine said this would be difficult for the church to approve.
At the conclusion of the meeting on Friday, we all recognized that, despite our differing perspectives, this issue is a matter of conscience for both the church and the university.  Dr. Carey said she would ask the university board about simply including a disclaimer statement that the views of the church don’t necessarily reflect the positions of the university.
Keep praying, friends.
Shakespeare in the Park play rehearsals are still on going.  Plans are to have a show in the sanctuary on Sunday, June 27 and Sunday, September 26.  Both are planned for 7 pm and run about two hours.  More information will follow.
